Media
CMAJ Open posts new content online as soon as it is ready to publish. All content is freely available from publication date.
CMAJ Open news releases are generally issued at the time of publication for papers that might be interesting to the general public and the media. However, some might be issued with a short embargo upon an author's request. Accredited journalists may register to receive pre-embargo content (see Media Contact below) and must agree to respect CMAJ Open's embargo policy outlined below.
Authors may discuss their findings before the publication date.
Selected media releases are available on the EurekAlert (http://www.eurekalert.org) website, run by the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Please remember to credit CMAJ Open as the source when reporting on an article.
Content in CMAJ Open represents the opinions of the authors and not necessarily those of the Canadian Medical Association.

Embargo Policy
Most CMAJ Open news releases are issued at the time of publication. Occasionally, some might be issued with a short embargo, upon an author's request. In this circumstance, media receive advance copies of papers under embargo with the understanding that individuals or media outlets cannot disseminate the information externally.
The embargo is in effect from the date of issue of the release until the time of publication; this will be clearly indicated in the press release.
During the embargo period, reporters may speak to the author but cannot publish or air the news item until the embargo is lifted.
If an embargo is broken by a media outlet, CMAJ Open will investigate the circumstances and take appropriate action.
