Although patients with CD typically present with malabsorption and weight loss, there is no evidence that avoidance of gluten by healthy individuals will result in weight loss or that gluten promotes weight gain (140–142). Some studies of patients with CD have shown that subjects actually gain weight on a gluten-free diet (140,143,144).
